The company PEGUET MAILLON RAPIDE SAS calls the owners of a MAILLON RAPIDE 8mm Standard Zincplated steel EN 362 / EN 12275 Ref.MRNZ08.0 CE EN to check their products for visible cracks on the surface. Affected are products of the batch: A.19.04
A screw link with a prominent superficial crack was found. The manufacturer of this product is PEGUET MAILLON RAPIDE SAS and EDELRID installs and sells it. PEGUET is currently investigating the case. In the interests of customer safety, PEGUET has decided to immediately call for a safety check. A screw link with a crack must be withdrawn from use immediately.
1. CHECK OF BATCH NUMBER
First check whether you have a product of the affected batch.
2. INSPECTION OF THE SCREW LINK
Check the entire body of the screw link for visible cracks on the surface:
Why does EDELRID publish PEGUET's call to review of the MAILLON RAPIDE 8mm??
Was there an accident with a defective screw link?
No, the defective screw link was dicovered during the incoming goods inspection by EDELRID. There was no accident.
What is the role of PEGUET and EDELRID?
PEGUET is the manufacturer of the product. EDELRID, like many other companies, acts as a dealer in this context and has only limited possibilities for action here. The responsibility for the PPE product lies with the manufacturer PEGUET. Since we also use the product as a semi-finished product in some EDELRID products, we must and want to take action ourselves.
What does PEGUET say about the incident?
What is the technical background for this safety call?
The technical background is currently being checked by PEGUET. The clarification here is PEGUET's responsibility.
Are other products affected?
EDELRID installs the PEGUET screw link into some of its own products. The following products contain the MAILLON RAPIDE 8mm and should be checked according to this advice:
Attention: None of the screw links have an EDELRID-specific marking.
In addition, equipment of other brands should also be checked for the use of this screw link. PEGUET distributes this product through several other brands.
We also appeal for increased caution and prior visual inspection of the product MAILLON RAPIDE 8mm, which is outside the area of responsibility of a single person or a company (e.g. established belay stations in multi-pitch routes).
Which batches are affected?
According to PEGUET, batch A.19.04 is affected.
Where can I find the batch number on the screw link?
The batch number is engraved on the long side of the screw link.
What should I do if I discover a defective screw link?
The screw link must be immediately withdrawn from use.
Who do I contact with further questions?
So far, we do not know more than the official warning notice from PEGUET. We will be happy to answer any further questions, but please apologise if this is only possible to a limited extent from our current state of knowledge. In such cases, we recommend contacting PEGUET directly.
